Freaky Friday (1976) Disney Movie

Rating: GLength: 95 mins.Year: 1976
Cast: Barbara Harris, Jodie Foster, John Astin

Disney Movie Rating:
78.1 out of 100. Total of 6 votes.

Freaky Friday (1976) Movie Description:

A mother (Barbara Harris) and daughter (Jodie Foster) get what they wish for, with hilarious consequences in Walt Disney's 1976 adaptation of Mary Rodgers' hilarious novel, Freaky Friday.

A typical Friday morning turns haywire when Harris and Foster wake up to discover they've swapped bodies, evidently the result of a mother-daughter disagreement from the evening before. Each goes about the other's daily routines, from housework to car-pooling and marching bands to boyfriends.

Miss Foster foreshadows her illustrious, Academy-Award winning adult career with a versatile, convincing performance as the tomboyish adolescent who gains a new measure of respect for adulthood after spending the day in grown-up shoes. Harris is suitably frazzled while John Astin, as the husband-father, also plays his role effectively.

Directed by Gary Nelson, veteran TV director of such programs as Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Gunsmoke and many others, Freaky Friday moves quickly and presents the "adult vs. childhood" age-old conflict effectively and entertainingly.

Cast: David Niven, Darren McGavin and Don Knotts

Disney Movie Rating:
74 out of 100. Total of 3 votes.

No Deposit No Return (1976) Movie Description:

With a cast of comedic veterans such as David Niven, Darren McGavin, Herschel Bernardi and Don Knotts, the 1976 Walt Disney production of No Deposit, No Return obviously comes under the heading of comedy. Another Disney reliable, Norman Tokar, directed this often hilarious comedic romp.

Two bratty spoiled rich kids, (Kim Richards, Brad Savage) decide to escape the tedious existence under the care of their stuffy grandfather (Niven), and decide they'd rather be with their jet-setting socialite mother (Barbara Feldon) in Hong Kong. To accomplish this, they brainstorm their own kidnapping. They enlist two semi-competent accomplices in petty thieves McGavin and Knotts to help them pull off the caper. Bernardi plays the police officer trying to hunt down the "victims."

No Deposit, No Return resembles some earlier Disney forays into comedic adventure, most notably The Boatniks (1970) and The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975), both of which, coincidentally, were also directed by Tokar.

Escape From The Dark (The Littlest Horse Thieves) (1976) Disney Movie

Rating: GLength: 104 mins.Year: 1976
Cast: Alastair Sim, Peter Barkworth and Maurice Colbourne

Disney Movie Rating:
60 out of 100. Total of 1 votes.

Escape From The Dark (The Littlest Horse Thieves) (1976) Movie Description:

Originally titled Escape From the Dark, later more commonly called The Littlest Horse Thieves, this Charles Jarrott-directed (Anne of the Thousand Days, Mary, Queen of Scots) 1976 Walt Disney Production is one of the handful of collaborations between Disney and British filmmakers that generally garnered critical kudos.

Filmed very darkly, which is understandable since a coal mine is the primary setting, this film epitomizes the classic British sense of "impending doom and gloom" of foggy marshlands and overcast skies. The storyline involves a Yorkshire coal mine which employs ponies as labor, but the owner has decided to mechanize the operation, apparently dooming the ponies to the slaughterhouse. The subsequent rescue is where the 'littlest horse thieves' come in.

British stage and screen legend Alastair Sim appears on film for the final time in this production. Also in the cast are Peter Barkworth, Maurice Colbourne and Susan Tebbs.

Not the typical Disney "sunshine and lollipops" film, Escape From the Dark is nevertheless an entertaining 104 minutes.

Escape to Witch Mountain (1975) Disney Movie

Rating: GLength: 97 mins.Year: 1975
Cast: Eddie Albert, Ray Milland and Donald Pleasence

Disney Movie Rating:
80.33 out of 100. Total of 11 votes.

Escape to Witch Mountain (1975) Movie Description:

The 1975 Disney production, Escape From Witch Mountain, is adapted from the Alexander Key novel about a set of psychic twins who desperately want to discover their origins.

Fast-paced, almost to a fault at times, Escape To Witch Mountain relies quite a bit on the "unspoken" communications between the twins, frequently requiring explanations which bog things down. The plot is fairly straightforward, however, and a large, competent cast manages to keep the action moving.

The climactic finale reveals that the twins are actually extra-terrestrials, forced to flee their own dying planet in the hopes of finding a suitable planet to re-populate their species.

Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann as the twins are a winning pair, with other pivotal cast members being Eddie Albert, Ray Milland, Donald Pleasence, Denver Pyle and Reta Shaw.

John Hough directed in his typical "British" style, heavy on dialogue, character development and background, while Johnny Mandel's brisk score helps to move the film along.

One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing (1975) Disney Movie

Rating: GLength: 100 mins.Year: 1975
Cast: Peter Ustinov, Helen Hayes and Derek Nimmo

Disney Movie Rating:
65.5 out of 100. Total of 3 votes.

One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing (1975) Movie Description:

One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing is a 1975 comedy from Walt Disney Productions. The film title is a take-off on the 1942 British film, One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing, a war-time film considered one of the classics of the era.

A group of British nannies collaborate with Scotland Yard in an attempt to locate and retrieve top secret microfilm that was stolen by a Chinese espionage agent and cleverly hidden inside of a skeleton that is on display at the British Museum of Natural History.

The film is "veddy" British, from dialect to costuming. The humor is also distinctively British, loaded with double-entendres and sight gags. Shot entirely in Great Britain, One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing is a bit of an homage to WWII-era British cinema, reportedly a favorite of the late Walt Disney.

Derek Nimmo, Helen Hayes, Peter Ustinov, Clive Revil and Jon Pertwee are just a sampling of the many British film greats among the cast.
