Six-year old Ben (Thomas), sees his pleasant family suddenly turned upside down by his father's abandonment to take up with his secretary. Ben's mother (Fawcett) is forced to try and console her son, while also determined to treat the situation as a chance to make a "fresh start." To that end, they move into a new apartment and take on this new beginning together.

Five years pass, during which mother and son have developed an admirable bond, which is threatened when the mother starts dating attorney Jack Sturges (Chase). Ben and Sturges struggle to develop a relationship, further complicated by a death threat to Sturges from a convicted criminal, as well as Ben's over-protective attitude towards his mother.

Chase is effective as the suitor, while Fawcett and Thomas interact well, making the relationship believable.

Growing up, Daniel was enthralled by tales of mythic characters told to him by his father, and in a fantasy sequence, Daniel actually meets up with such legendary figures as Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan and John Henry.

Given advice by his heroes, Daniel wisely takes heed and uses this knowledge to team with his father and outwit the "wolf at the door."

Director Jeremiah S. Chechik has such films as National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and The Avengers on his resume, in addition to the critically-acclaimed ESPN mini-series, The Bronx Is Burning.
