A spin on the infamous 17th-Century Salem Witch Trials is the focus of the 1993 Walt Disney Pictures fantasy-comedy Hocus Pocus.

Salem, Mass. 1693: Three sisters (deemed witches by townspeople) are publicly hanged after allegedly killing another girl and transforming the slain girl's brother into a talking cat. Dissolve to Salem, Mass. 1993, October 31st (Halloween) to be precise.

New high school student Max isn't adjusting well to his new school or classmates. Apparently Max is an object of ridicule because he scoffs at the legend of the three witches, which is held to be a "sacred truth" in Salem. Reluctantly, Max agrees to accompany his younger sister on her "trick-or-treat"-ing rounds, where they become involved in strange goings-on at the house where the three 17th-Century "witch" sisters lived.

Hocus Pocus has developed somewhat of a cult following over the years. The cast is solid, led by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Omri Katz and Thora Birch. Legendary TV producer/director Garry Marshall has a cameo as the Devil.

Aladdin (1992) Disney Movie

Rating: GLength: 90 mins.Year: 1992
Cast: Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman

Disney Movie Rating:
90.1 out of 100. Total of 2390 votes.

Aladdin (1992) Movie Description:

The 1992 Disney animated film, Aladdin, is adapted from the Arabian classic folktale, Aladdin and the One Thousand and One Nights, continuing the series of Walt Disney Animated Classics.

This version is generally faithful to the original story, however, improvisation and modernization serve to create a more contemporary "feel." The animation, as to be expected, is superb.

The street-smart Aladdin and his pet monkey are regulars along the city streets, but when by chance they encounter Princess Jasmine, things begin to change. Looked upon unfavorably by the Sultan's top henchman, the evil Jafar, Aladdin winds up tossed in jail, subsequently finding himself in the middle of Jafar's plot to take over the kingdom with the aid of a magic lamp.

Providing the voices for the film are such notables as Robin Williams (who also narrates), Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin, Gilbert Gottfried and Frank Welker. The celebrated animation team of Ron Clements and John Musker both produced and directed.

Honey I Blew Up the Kid (1992) Disney Movie

Rating: PGLength: 89 mins.Year: 1992
Cast: Rick Moranis, Marcia Strassman and Robert Oliveri

Disney Movie Rating:
36.7 out of 100. Total of 5 votes.

Honey I Blew Up the Kid (1992) Movie Description:

The sequel to 1989's box-office hit, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is the 1992 Walt Disney Pictures comedy, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. Rick Moranis and Marcia Strassman reprise their roles from the original.

In a reversal of the original premise, this time Moranis manages to enlarge the kid in Absent-Minded Professor-style. The newly-massive child, Adam, quickly grows to seven feet tall, necessitating radical changes to the household. Before much longer, Adam reaches 12-foot tall proportions, and inadvertently turns the Las Vegas backdrop into chaos.

Moranis once again does an admirable job in "channelling" Fred MacMurray, while Strassman capably plays the predictable, supportive mother. John Shea portrays Moranis' boss, who attempts to corner his employee's latest high-tech gizmo, while screen veteran Lloyd Bridges is effective in a cameo.

Retaining much of the original's charm, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid manages to entertain although semi-savvy viewers will see the inevitable conclusion a mile away.

Rocketeer (1991) Disney Movie

Rating: PGLength: 108 mins.Year: 1991
Cast: Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly and Alan Arkin

Disney Movie Rating:
71.1 out of 100. Total of 6 votes.

Rocketeer (1991) Movie Description:

For his second directorial effort, Joe Johnston takes on The Rocketeer, a 1991 action-adventure film from Walt Disney Pictures. Johnston's first director's stint, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, was a box-office hit in 1989.

Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell) is a stunt pilot who accidentally discovers a rocket pack that gives him the ability to fly. Supposedly designed and bankrolled by legendary billionaire recluse Howard Hughes, the rocket pack becomes the target of several different organizations, including Nazi German agents. Secord (albeit reluctantly) utilizes the highly sought-after rocket pack to fight crime, while simultaneously avoiding his pursuers. When the evildoers kidnap his girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly), Secord's task becomes even more complicated.

Filmed to resemble the classic 1930s-style Hollywood adventure films, The Rocketeer succeeds in "looking" the part, but inconsistency and occasional sensationalism in the storyline fall a bit short to accomplish true "homage."

Besides Campbell and Connelly, cast members include Timothy Dalton, Alan Arkin and Paul Sorvino.

Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken (1991) Disney Movie

Rating: GLength: 88 mins.Year: 1991
Cast: Gabrielle Anwar, Michael Schoeffling and Cliff Robertson

Disney Movie Rating:
67.65 out of 100. Total of 4 votes.

Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken (1991) Movie Description:

Filmed in rural South Carolina, Walt Disney Pictures 1991 adventure-romance, Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken tells the story of a somewhat headstrong, rebellious teenaged girl whose dream and ambition is to become a "diving girl," a rather obscure activity involving horses diving into water with a rider.

Sonora Webster (Gabrielle Anwar) is the girl with big dreams, and remarkably, she achieves her goal, only to be blinded while performing her specialty at the Atlantic City Steel Pier. Shattered and temporarily despondent, Sonora displays her determination by working tirelessly to "get back on the horse," and although the odds are overwhelmingly against her, she eventually succeeds.

Potentially derivative and predictable, Wild Hearts instead, thanks to wonderful performances (especially by Anwar) and an intelligent storyline, is a wonderful, inspiring film.

Other notable performances among the cast include Cliff Robertson and Michael Schoeffling. Steve Miner, veteran of several movies and TV shows, directs with an unobtrusive, deft touch.
