Blank Check (1994) Disney Movie

Rating: PGLength: 93 mins.Year: 1994
Cast: Brian Bonsall, Karen Duffy and James Rebhorn

Disney Movie Rating:
57.53 out of 100. Total of 3 votes.

Blank Check (1994) Movie Description:

1994's Blank Check, from Walt Disney Pictures, recounts a familiar story of a neglected 11-year old, gangsters, and mistaken identity. Preston, the 11-year old, finds himself in the middle of a botched underworld money exchange, and when he accepts a check (from a gangster) to cover the cost of his destroyed bicycle, the check is missing an amount. Ergo, "blank check."

With his newfound riches, the 11-year old goes on a spending spree, unaware that gangsters are hot on his trail. A bank teller slash FBI agent becomes involved, and Preston develops a huge crush on her and spends even more money trying to impress her.

Borrowing liberally from Home Alone and various other "kids-playing-grownup" films, Blank Check never really recreates the charm and uniqueness of the former film. The acting is mediocre, at best, and the storyline requires quite a bit of suspended belief.

Director Rupert Wainwright got his start as the writer-director for rapper MC Hammer's early 90s videos.

Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (1994) Disney Movie

Rating: PGLength: 111 mins.Year: 1994
Cast: Jason Scott Lee, Cary Elwes and Lena Headey

Disney Movie Rating:
59.4 out of 100. Total of 1 votes.

Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (1994) Movie Description:

Based on the classic children's books, The Jungle Book and the Second Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, the 1994 Walt Disney Productions version, Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book is essentially a live-action remake of the 1967 animated film.

Mowgli (Jason Scott Lee) is accompanying his wilderness guide father through India when a tiger inexplicably slaughters the father, leaving five-year old Mowgli to fend for himself. Thankfully, the boy has his pet wolf Grey Brother as a companion, and the pair manage to survive long enough to make new friends among the jungle animals.

Mowgli encounters all manner of dangerous situations, but with the help of his new-found animal friends, develops a reputation of honor, even being hailed as a hero after he defeats the great serpent Kaa with the assistance of a bejeweled dagger. Kaa survives however, and the two will eventually meet again.

Filmed internationally in India as well as in North Carolina and Tennessee, Jungle Book is beautifully filmed, especially the jungle scenes which present an often dark and forboding atmosphere.

Squanto: A Warrior's Tale (1994) Disney Movie

Rating: PGLength: 102 mins.Year: 1994
Cast: Adam Beach, Mandy Patinkin and Sheldon Peters Wolfchild

Disney Movie Rating:
60 out of 100. Total of 1 votes.

Squanto: A Warrior's Tale (1994) Movie Description:

Walt Disney Pictures 1994 production of Squanto: A Warrior's Tale, chronicles the story of the iconic Native American who was a significant figure just prior to and during the Mayflower era.

Having just married, Squanto (Adam Beach) has the misfortune of running afoul of British trinket and fur traders, winding up being captured and sent to Europe. He manages to escape soon after arriving in England, and is given refuge at a monastery, where he discovers that all "white devils" aren't evil or greedy. Eventually, Squanto hops a ship headed back to the New World, but upon arrival, discovers his former village has been wiped out by disease. His fellow Native Americans rightly blame the British and prepare for revenge, but Squanto skillfully persuades his colleagues to refrain themselves. His efforts result in the first Thanksgiving.

Filmed entirely in Nova Scotia, Squanto is a visually stunning, well-acted film. Beach, in the title role, is particularly effective. Xavier Koller, who won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1990 (Journey of Hope), directed.
