The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952) Movie Description:

The success of Treasure Island convinced Walt Disney to make another live-action film. Disney Studios produced The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men in 1952. Filmed in Britain, as was Treasure Island, the film recounts the well-known tale of the classic "rob from the rich, give to the poor" storyline that is familiar to movie-goers and literature-lovers throughout history.

All of the unforgettable characters, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, Little John, Maid Marian and the Sheriff of Nottingham are well-portrayed, some perhaps a bit too much, but despite some rather ponderous direction, the story itself carries the film right along to it's happy conclusion.

Always lively and filmed beautifully, Robin Hood and His Merrie Men stars Richard Todd as the dashing hero, and in one of his early starring roles, Peter Finch, as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Finch went on to become an Oscar winner nearly a quarter century later for Network.

In 1973, Disney released an animated Robin Hood film.
